Andy Merrett’s faceliftMay 6th, 2005

Well, my online facelift. I decided that my site needed a freshen up. What do you tihnk? Not vastly different, but a little more interesting than the all-pale-blue affair going on before.

I’ve not yet brought myself to update to WordPress 1.5 on this site – I nearly did yesterday and then bottled out; as it was I was half-asleep and it would not have been a good time to mess with mySQL databases and directories. Oh well, one day…

Update 7 May: I’m now on WordPress 1.5, Some of the images are missing so I’ll have to work on those over the next few days. I’ll also be turning trackbacks on again as the spam handling is much better in 1.5.

Go the WP1.5 upgrade *then* fiddle with the look. The changes to templates in particular make it worth the upgrade, as you can then design lots of different looks, and switch between them really easily. (The anti-spam and other enhancements also make 1.5 worthwhile).

I should’ve done really – WP1.5 is much better – I use it elsewhere. Maybe I’ll sort it this weekend. I may pick your brains on how it went for Geekrant and your own site.
