London shaken by explosions on Tube and busJuly 7th, 2005

Update Thursday 21st July 1.50pm Two weeks on: Latest news on today’s incidents

There have been various ‘explosions’ and ‘incidents’ across the Tube network, initially thought to be caused by power failures (and surges?), including Liverpool Street and Aldgate.

Now it looks more sinister.

Reports of at least three explosions on buses, and across the (now closed) Tube network.

BBC News and CNN both report ‘walking wounded’.

This is an ironic and nasty twist the day after London won the Olympics bid.

Perosnal Update 11.30am: I’m touched by people around the globe asking how I am.

I’m already in London (I got to work early) so potentially stuck for a long time. I’m not near the blasts themselves, but as people are being advised to stay out of London, it’s serious.

The office is quite eerie – it’s nearly impossible to concentrate on work.

I’ll keep you all posted via this blog. The mobile networks are jammed up. Let’s hope and pray this doesn’t get any worse, and that casualties and fatalities are kept to a minimum.

Thanks for all your thoughts, people. It’s appreciated.

Update 12:10pm: Tony Blair says that it is “reasonably clear” the explosions were caused by terrorist attack.

Terrorists will never win. You can rock our cities, for whatever your twisted, violent reasons, but we are stronger.
