Pizza Hut ten years on July 6th, 2004

Julie and I went to Pizza Hut on Thursday after tenpin bowling (incidentally, where the staff were dressed up in Hawaiian style costume and I think were supposed to be looking and acting happy – both of which they seemed unwilling or unable to do).

I haven’t been to a Pizza Hut for at least ten years, and despite all the new things on the menu, it really hasn’t changed all that much. What is now the fluffy base pizza (or suchlike) seems very much like the original pizza I remember. The salad bar is pretty much the same. The pizzas are likely still as calorifically unhealthy as they ever were. It was good, though.

Beach trip July 6th, 2004

A group of us went to Littlehampton beach yesterday – five females and me. So, yes, there was the danger of me being the token male, but the group wasn’t particularly ‘girlie’ so no problems.

The weather was forecast sunny and showers – we got sunny and very blustery. It wasn’t really cold, but the promenade was very windswept.

Catch up July 5th, 2004

I’ve been so busy having a life over the past few days that I haven’t had much time to blog about it. This is serious.

Some things that will be brought to the blog soon (possibly backdated):

  • Weekend at the beach – highlights and pictures
  • My reflections on Pizza Hut
  • SociaLight system
  • Football

and more I can’t remember because I haven’t got my notebook with me today.

Maybe I’ll get some time tonight.

Big Digi-memory July 5th, 2004

I’ve just bought a 128Mb memory card for my new camera as the 16Mb isn’t really big enough. Wow, how much space now!

I can now take 45 highest res/highest quality pictures, instead of only 5. And the numbers just get better. At 640×480 I could take almost 800 – though I’m not sure I could think of 800 pictures to take before needing a download. On my normal resolution I can take several hundred now. Nice. :)

Insert banned for using naked women to flog car parts

Jennifer Whitehead, Brand Republic 08:30 30-06-2004

LONDON – An insert that used an image of two women naked except for knickers to promote spare car parts has been banned for being offensive.

Seven people complained about the ad, which promoted a Leicestershire-based spare parts business called A1 Motor Stores. It was created by RAH Advertising and appeared as an insert in the Northwich Mail and Peterborough Citizen.

There were various pictures of women in the insert in suggestive poses. One showed two topless women with the caption “Mmmmm! The Lovely RaceX Twins”. Other images showed a woman wearing knickers and a cardigan that exposed her cleavage, and another showed the rear view of a woman who was naked from the waist down.

The Advertising Standards Authority said it considered the images likely to cause serious or widespread offence to readers of free regional newspapers, especially because they could been seen by children.

A1 Motor Stores said it had verbally apologised to complainants and assured the ASA the ad would not appear again.

Sun's Denial of Service Attack July 1st, 2004

The Sun forces Swiss ref into hiding after death threats.

I’m stunned. And not in a good way. I know tabloid journalism is often to be found in the gutter along with other sorts of scum, but this is really foul-play.

After England’s defeat to Portugal in the Euro 2004 quarter-final, our treasured British tabloid, The Sun, decided to run a hate campaign against Urs Meier, the Swiss referee who was presiding over the match.
