I’m not suggesting everyone should be “PC” (ie hate that) but there’s ways of talking that make points without completely writing off an entire system or nation.
Take Supporting Google in China in which Duncan describes China, just 25 years ago (gasp!), as “a backwards nation”.
Hmm, by whose standards?
Sure he then goes on to say that “Today China is a vibrant country that embraces world trade and continues to open its doors to others.” – despite only 25 years ago being “backwards”, eh?
And then he closes his commentary (which in sentiment I agree with) by telling us “I don’t like Commies one darn bit”
Oh well, that’s nice to know. That’ll do a lot for international relations.

I’m not trying to put a dampener on Blogonomics on every blog I write, but I did find it vaguely ironic that a blog about a business blog conference has its comments turned off…

Why do people think they’re any more likely to win the EuroMillions £100m jackpot than normal?
There’s a lot of hype surrounding this massive rollover, and I’m just trying to ignore it. All it’s really doing is making Camelot much, much richer.

Maybe I’m just paranoid but I don’t seem to be able to leave comments at b5media recently. I tried both a direct comment and a trackback about their new Apple site, and both failed.
Two comments I left on the Apple blog haven’t been moderated (or they’ve been dropped) either.
Oh well. Either I upset someone along the way or the database is having problems. Or maybe I just wasn’t meant to comment on b5′s offerings.
Shrug.

OK, maybe not just chocolate, but I don’t mind receiving it for completing work.
I was only joking when I suggested a suitable payment for working through an irritating database problem was to buy me chocolate.
Still, one bar of Green & Black’s later, I’m not complaining…

Is it just me that thinks it’s common courtesy to let people know if you’re not attending a meeting that’s been set up?
Particularly as I am now the one that keeps being pestered to find out where that person is, why they’re not at the meeting, etc.
It only takes a phone call or an email…
Grrr…
(Like I’m not busy?)

Sometimes it’s just not worth getting involved.
When a colleague arrives, obviously frustrated and rushed, it’s worth allowing that person to simmer on their own for a bit before engaging in office banter.
Getting involved could be costly…

Twenty years ago this month, the first computer virus was ‘unleashed’ – well, as far as you can unleash something on a 5.25 inch floppy disk.
It was called Brain (I misread that as Brian the first time) and is now extinct.
Pity its descendants are still running wild.

I think we all know how important eating a good quantity of fruit and vegetables – preferably unprocessed – is.
I admit to finding it difficult to eat fruit – well OK, I’m just lazy.
Veg isn’t so difficult, as it’s more a conscious effort to cook a meal that includes them. However, if fruit isn’t obviously in view, I forget about it.
So, I visited the market stall on the corner of Oxford Street and Baker Street, and bought at least a week’s worth of fruit. The fact that it’s now on my desk, and I see it often, will encourage me to eat it!
And I’ve bought ingredients to make my lunch every day, and the total cost of both the sandwich ingredients and fruit was less than I could spend buying prepackaged sandwiches and lunches for a week. Excellent.
