My Problogger PercentageMay 13th, 2006

percent.pngTake a look over to the right of this post, and in the sidebar you’ll see Problogger Percentage and then a figure.

As I write this, it’s set at 26%.

That means that I am currently earning 26% of what I need in order to be a full-time problogger (online journalist, as I like to call myself)

Until last week I was probably at about 2-3%, but then I landed a writing job at HDTV.

This is all very good, but I’m reaching a plateau in terms of the time I can devote to writing. Any more and the quality of my writing will suffer.

So, am I stuck?

Well, yes and no.

It will take a shift in circumstances in order to go pro. Either:

  1. I get a part-time job to free up more time for writing
  2. I get enough new writing work in one go so that I can quit my full-time job altogether.
  3. Lower my outgoings so that I need to earn less money in order to go pro.

It will probably take a combination of the above.

I’ll lay my dream on the table for you all to see: I want to be a professional online writer by the end of this year.

I have ideas and am talking with some influential people, and I’m confident it can and will happen. I don’t know exactly how right now, but I’m believing it.

This is my dream. I’ve had it for over 10 years – to make an income online providing useful information and services.

I will get there – I just hope it’s sooner rather than later.

Part of this blog will be about my journey there. If you like what I’m doing here, and elsewhere, feel free to donate by using the PayPal donate button at the top-right of this site.
