Avoiding "Your Move" for property rentalsMay 1st, 2007

I’ve just been badgered by “Your Move” letting agents for a forwarding address since we’ve recently moved (yes I know we haven’t moved, it’s a long story), because (allegedly) they “provide a service to landlords” by telling the utility companies to cut off gas and electricity, etc.

This is funny, as our landlord (who we have direct contact with) has said that “Your Move” haven’t done ANYTHING except take money, and give us the keys when we moved in.

Both the landlord and us, as tenants, have paid Your Move significant money for doing very, very, little (I think the phrase is ‘sweet FA’)

For example, when we moved in, we asked them to move some old furniture, which they said they would, but never did.

Anything to do with changing utilities, etc, we were told to contact the landlord.

When Your Move themselves couldn’t contact the landlord, they phoned us to see if we could. Oh yes, that’s good service isn’t it?

Whenever we have wanted maintenance done, we’ve had to contact the landlord. Forget about the letting agents doing it.

And, since March, they’ve pestered us on the phone trying to tout for business, supposedly caring about how our (phantom) move went, and getting information from us.

We’ve heard precious little from them in the 2+ years we’ve already been at this address.

They’re useless, basically, and I wouldn’t use them again. Nice try, Elaine, but your company has merely been a drain into which both the landlord and ourselves have poured money. Sure, you may have ‘found’ the property in the first place, but you’ve done nothing else.

Full stop.
