My blogging setup September 7th, 2007

Darren Rowse recently did a video tour of his office, and then explored 27 other workspaces submitted by his readers.

My “office” was far too cluttered to even dare take a picture, but now I’ve tidied up the desk (at least) so you can take a look at where I spend most of my day:

My setup is:

  • 17-inch Core 2 Duo iMac
  • 19-inch Hanns-G monitor (second display)
  • Powerbook G4 (doesn’t always live here)

Fairly simple, really.

What you can’t see is a collection of old equipment, stacks of CDs and DVDs, review gadgets, and paperwork.

What you might catch a glimpse of is the lovely view. At least, lovely for SW London — a large tree in our garden and woodland beyond. Quite therapeutic to look out, even if it’s raining, and see some nature. It’s also a lot quieter at the back of the house where the office is.

So there you go. That’s my ProBlogging base for now. Maybe if I ever reach a time that blogging pays for a house, I’ll be able to expand, and have more space to organise my junk!

Little Britain's Lou and Andy turn up on Neighbours September 6th, 2007

Yes, I watch Neighbours rather too often. Today (UK), Lou and Andy (David Walliams and Matt Lucas) from Little Britain turned up in the Scarlet Bar.

This was reported on the BBC web site back in March, but only today did we Brits get to see it.

It’s a fairly short, background sequence, involving Lou asking for a menu recommendation from Toadie, and Andy (characteristically) getting out of his wheelchair, having a go on the motorbike arcade game, and then sitting back in his wheelchair.

Google Reader ups unread post count by factor of ten September 6th, 2007

Anyone who has feeds, folders, or searches in Google Reader with a large number of unread items (as I do) may be pleased to hear that the service now appears to have increased the unread count “ceiling”.

Before, if you had over one hundred items left unread in a folder, it would simply display (100+) in the count.

Now, it seems to go up to 1,000. This is useful for folders with several busy feeds in, though I admit I’ve now got folders with (1,000+) showing — time to do some reading or clearing, I think.

If you have any individual feeds showing (1,000+), then there’s really not much hope for you. I’d advise skimming the last couple of days’ posts and then marking all as read.
